Synopsis: 

To survive and stay a step ahead of the competition during the Wild West years, entrepreneurs had to cheat. So it was without compunction that one group of prospectors raised spirits of the dead to pinpoint the most profitable ore-bearing veins up for grabs in Colorado's gold rush. But during one incantation they overstepped an unwritten rule, conjuring a demon that refused to go away. 

Over a century later, the demon incarnate has resurfaced, only to wander the mountains while trying to regain its memory -- and a purpose. But time is running out. The awakening has created a rift in the spiritual world, and to prevent a cataclysm, powerful magi converge on Colorado. But the one thing greater than the sorcerers' fear of one of Hell's mightiest roaming free is their hatred for one another, though little do they realize that the fiercest obstacle in their way is a sociopath high school teacher and Lorissa, a tough-minded woman who will do whatever necessary to protect her home and her family.

Review: 

I must admit I don't know where to start from. Well yes, I will start saying:

THIS BOOK IS GOLD.

I do love demonic tales so, of course, I'm prone to extra-enjoy this book. That said, this is a complex title. Many different stories crossing over each other sewing a perfect web of different lives who crush into the same grave.

Every character, every single little plot has an amazing, intricate, elaborate background which would make you believe all of them are perfectly real.

Perkins shows a terrific intellect, managing and turning the point of view, the narrator, inner thoughts and dialogues - jumping from one to another - with astonishing ease. The roots and entrails of every story impregnate your mind as you keep on reading. It's not a gore book (although it has lots of blood, of course) but it makes you feel that kind of fear which freezes your chest when you think... "you're not alone".

The introduction is agile, but about halfway into the book lines precipitate and the read becomes frenetic. Really, I found myself at the edge of the chair, clenching my teeth and murmuring every now and then "holy ******!"

Every detail is essential for the final understanding, the illumination of the end. The information research is huge, all the "sorcery and demonic" material exposed in this book is just, wow. You only want to know more and more. Demons, sorcerers, corpses, resurrections, tortured ghosts... and a psychopath. But oh dear, what a character! To me, this one has centred almost all my attention. I felt sorry and sad, I could feel his pain, I cried with him and I laughed with him. Literally, I laughed.

But anything I'm saying reaches a 10% of what this book made me feel in many different ways. Perkins is brilliant. Brilliant. And I can only encourage all horror lovers reading this to grab this book, give it a chance because you will love it. One of the BEST books I have read (And I read lots of horror. Lots).

This book, made me stop at only a tender 24% of the read to write a post telling everyone how amazing it was. I'm going to stop talking because I won't make it better than it already is. That is impossible. My most honest and sincere, not only congratulations, but a big great "thank you" to this incredible, still unknown but not for long, excellent horror author.

These Walls Don't Talk, They Scream

Shadowmancer

Jeremy Mac

This book is a disturbing quick read. What starts looking like a simple teenager story ends up being an obscure tale electrifying the reader's spine. I didn't expect what I found in this title. Mac is very easy to read, so pleasurable, I can see why he gets so many good reviews. The entrails of the story are centred in that fine line separating power and danger. The way you would lose control of your darkest side without realising you're giving away the reigns. The book is fresh, agile, you don't notice time flies as you're turning pages. Legacy

Marc W. Johnson

If I had to describe this book in one word, it would be without a shadow of a doubt, "shuddering". Johnson knows how to keep you awake. Playing with dialogues, he makes you jump from one scene to another without giving you the option to stop, because... you don't want to stop. Awakening

This book is certainly the sequel of "Affinity's Window" and for starters, I'll say that if you thought it couldn't get better, well, it does. The first page already made me clench my teeth (obviously I won't tell you why). Wilson shows, this time, a wide skill for the police and crime material, making it the main wire in the plot, dragging the characters into a storm of events they cannot control from minute one. Affinity's Window

This is the first piece I've read by this author. I'm greatly surprised. Ghosts and demons, pure paranormal threads are my thing in horror. I love them, and Wilson takes those terrifying strings and twirls them together, in such a loving way that you lose conscience of what side you are on. In this first book of the trilogy, Ondrashek soaks with blood the idea of the "typical" vampire. Just turning the first page you already have a good dose of gore and that grabbed me, you bet! I don't know how to start talking about this book, because it provokes many different feelings, shadows. Well, I had to take a couple days to write a review of this book, because it implies too many important concepts. The most important, in my opinion, is how this book DISTURBS you. But not in a regular way. Not in a bloody, gore way.
