The Interview:

Here is Hilton Ariel Ruiz, a talented director who's gonna be talking with us about his project: ZOMBIE WITH A SHOTGUN, a web serie which will be a movie soon.

Q: want to tell to our audience a little bit about your personal life story?

I was born in New York City. I live in downtown NYC. Love steak and milk shakes (very bad for you). I still own a Steenbeck (film- editing table) that I used to cut my first films on. Besides film, I also went to school for photography. I own a beer shop that carries five thousand beers around the world.

Q: Tell us your connection with horror and horror movies during your life and your youth...

Being from New york City and growing up during the 80s, I've seen many crazy things that were scary enough to be in a horror film. That feeling of fear of growing up in NYC would be reminded when watching a good horror film. New York city is a big inspiration of me getting into horror or film in general.

Q: Why you decided to start making films? and why you’ve chosen the web format at first?

I always was fascinated with filmmaking at a very young age. I grew up in a very large family so the cheapest thing to do at that time, was to go to the movies. I went to the movie theater every weekend. After watching the film,  me and my siblings would reenact the scenes from the movie we watched that day. Being the youngest they never wanted me to be an actor for the reenactment, so they always said,  "why don't you be the camera man", which turned into being the director as time went on. My family to this day still reminds me about those days.

I started the web format first because it would get my product out there quicker then waiting for a film festival to let me know if I was accepted. Once my film would get accepted to a festival, I would wait for that one screening. Now having my film in the web, the world is my audience and anyone can screen it in front of them. This way it allows many more people to give me feedback on my product.

Q: Your footage looks pretty awesome and the first thing we realize is that your actors are really good-looking, was that an accurate choice from you or...?

Thank you for the kind words. With the actors being good-looking, yes It has been a theme of me having eye candy performers in front of the camera. But I do make sure they can do the job in front of the camera and I really do believe they have. I have been lucky with finding good actors that look hot.

Q: Certainly our users want to know about your horror tastes… what’s your favorite horror movie and, if possible, your favorite director?

It's hard to say what is my favorite horror film as there is so many but Exorcist stands out on my mine as one of my favorites. Ridley Scott is my favorite director but tomorrow it may be John Carpenter.

Q: Music in your films sounds really great. do you use original soundtracks?

Yes. I use original music from talented people that I feel can do the job.

Q: In horror movies zombies are pretty common, why do you think people love zombies so much? do you think there could be some kind of metaphoric connection between zombies and life in general?

I haven't really figured why people love Zombies so much. All I can think about is the thing people are intrigued about, is how can the dead be alive.

Q: Did you ever act yourself inside a movie? you will be interested to do it in the future?

Yes. I have acted in many of my films in the past. I tried it out for a while and then I stopped. I would love to resurface the idea of being in my films again in the future.

Q: How do you chose your actors? we can allow our site-friends to contact you for a casting-session?

Choosing actors can be as easy as me spotting someone in the streets that I like, where I will approach them and ask them that I would love them to be in a film that I'm working on. I also ask friends to send me head shots of actors they recommend. At times just being online, if I see someone I like, I will contact them to see if they would be interested in being in my project. Yes, your site-friends can contact me for casting-session.

Q: Share a dream with us. about your work or anything else.

A dream of mine is having one project I create to be a part of cinema history.
