Doctor Sleep

2019
7
Director:
Mike Flanagan

SYNOPSIS:

Struggling with his alcohol addiction, Dan Torrance bears the weight of the sinister events he was a victim of as a child. The encounter with a teenager with extrasensory powers, Abra, changes his life.

REVIEW:

Direct sequel to Stanley Kubrick's cult film "The Shining" based on Stephen King's novel and always hated by him for the many liberties taken in the screenplay compared to the original text. Directed by Mike Flanagan, a horror expert (Oculus 2013). Unfortunately, the comparison with the 1980 film does not hold up. The narration is too classic and tasteless and the nostalgia factor does not fascinate as it would like, furthermore the film is too long and slow. But the many horror and supernatural scenes are of great quality and are truly disturbing, so much so that they gave me bad nightmares. The cast is good, although I do not like it when a character, especially one as iconic as that of little Dan Torrance, is distorted in its features, making him play an adult version by a very blond Ewan McGregor.

Taking Lives

2004

An Abyss of Identity and Terror Taking Lives is far from a standard police procedural; it is a claustrophobic plunge into psychological horror that preys on the unsettling anxiety of identity theft. Director D.J. Caruso transforms a serial killer hunt into a paranoid nightmare where identity is never a safe harbor, but rather a mask to be ripped away and donned by a monster. The atmosphere is saturated with a sense of looming doom, featuring cinematography that evokes a visceral, disturbing tension typical of the finest psychological thrillers. The true pillar of the... Scream 7: A Bloody, Nostalgic Homecoming for Sidney Prescott Scream 7 officially brings the franchise back to its roots, trading the "Core Four" era for a direct line to its 1996 origins. By leaning heavily into nostalgia, the film centers Sidney Prescott’s new battles not just against a masked killer, but against the weight of her own history. The Good: Emotional Stakes & Meta-Mayhem The film shines when it examines the intergenerational trauma and the complex mother-daughter dynamics that have always haunted the series. It’s a grounded take on Sidney’s... Read More

Iron Lung

2025

An Immersion into Claustrophobic Nightmare Iron Lung marks the cinematic directorial debut of Mark Fischbach (Markiplier), and it does so with a vision that bets everything on psychological tension and body horror. The film perfectly translates the essence of the original material: that suffocating feeling of being trapped in a metal box, surrounded by an ocean of blood on an alien moon. The strength of the film lies in its industrial and grimy aesthetic. Markiplier’s direction doesn't hunt for cheap jump scares; instead, it builds constant dread through sound design—... Read More

Technical and Artistic Analysis Timothy Linh Bui's Direction: The director has successfully turned Saigon into a character in its own right. The cinematography, rich in contrasts between city neon and river darkness, creates an atmosphere suspended between dream and nightmare. Ash

2025

"Ash" presents itself as a visually hypnotic work that blends claustrophobic science fiction with a "mindbender" psychological thriller. Under the visionary direction of musician and filmmaker Flying Lotus, the film moves away from classic space-opera tropes to focus on a visceral narrative charged with tension. The strength of the film lies in the chemistry between the two leads, Eiza González and Aaron Paul, who successfully convey a constant sense of paranoia. The cinematography is dominated by crimson tones and deep blacks (as suggested by the poster), creating a... Read More
