Genoveva Rossi is a cult film star, horror icon, and award-winning actress of film and stage. "Genoveva Rossi is one of the most recognized cult film stars in the world," writes Clare Nixon of The Digital Dead (UK). This horror icon is best known for her portrayals of zombies, witches, fortune tellers, psychopathic killers, demented neighbors, troubled mothers, police officers, detectives, and soldiers. She is best known for her horror films, but has expanded her range of roles considerably. She's played a sexy Satanist, a séance leader, a demon, a pregnant hippie, a mother, a hired assassin, a murderess, a witch, a fortune teller, a doctor in a mental institution, a journalist, a zombie, a vampire, a National Guardsman, a sexy model, and so much more. It's been an exciting ride so far and a fabulous opportunity to challenge herself as an actress and broaden her horizons as an adventurer. 1. Over the years, you’ve become a recurring face in independent horror cinema. What first drew you to such an intense and fascinating genre?

 

I had always been a big horror fan so it was a natural choice.

 

2. You’ve played a wide range of roles: victims, antagonists, supernatural beings. Which character has been the most challenging to bring to life, and why?

 

Not any one character really stands out in that way. Every character has been a challenge and a pleasure to play. The acting journey is very satisfying. 

 

 

3. Many of your films, like Attack of the Killer Chickens or I Spill Your Guts, mix horror with irony and gore. How do you approach a project that blends fear with dark humor?

 

It’s a super fun, wild genre that requires a certain playfulness. 

I actually wrote and directed Attack of the Killer Chickens the Movie so that’s close to my heart. The horror comedy genre in particularly wild and fun. AOTKC is an attack film and a spoof of low budget horror comedies. It’s available on Amazon and Troma’s Now.

 

4. Which horror films shaped you as both a viewer and an actress? Is there one title you consider your personal “horror bible”?

 

I was really fascinated by horror of the 1970s to 1990s. So many amazing movies and actors in the genre! Especially Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th...

 

5. Working in indie horror often means intense sets, tight schedules, and limited budgets. What’s the most memorable or wild experience you’ve had during a production?

 

Sometimes you have a tight special effects budget and a gore scene can only be done once! So everyone has to bring in their top skills and performance to the production. It can get pretty intense. 

 

6. Fans appreciate your ability to give depth even to the most extreme roles. How do you build a horror character without falling into clichés?

 

Try to find part of yourself in every character you play not matter how challenging that might be. Explore yourself and find that connection to the character. 

 

7. The horror audience is incredibly loyal and passionate. What is your relationship with fans like, and how do you feel about being recognized as a key figure in the genre?

 

The horror community is like a family and it’s a great honor to be a part of that. 

 

 

8. Looking ahead, what horror projects do you have coming up? Are there roles or subgenres you still dream of exploring — maybe something more psychological, supernatural, or completely unconventional?
